Extractions

Although our dentists at Millway Dental do everything they can to save a tooth, it isn’t always possible. If your teeth have severe decay or break due to a traumatic event, then extractions in Mississauga, ON may be necessary. Fortunately, our caring dental staff will keep you as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure to remove your teeth.

Why Do Teeth Need Removing?

Severe tooth decay and traumas that break teeth are just two examples of why teeth may need extracting. Our dentists near you also pull teeth due to:

  • Severe gum disease
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Impacted teeth

Extraction Procedures

There are two ways our dentists in Mississauga, ON extract teeth. They can do simple or surgical extractions near you. A simple extraction takes place in our office when it’s necessary to pull a tooth due to trauma, decay, or periodontal disease. If surgery is required to remove a tooth, it may occur in the office, or a more complicated situation may require our patient to have the tooth removed at a hospital.

A surgical procedure that occurs in the office may require one of our dentists to open the gum to uncover the remaining tooth and grasp it to remove it. However, impacted teeth may need a more complicated surgical procedure.

If your wisdom teeth, which are a set of third molars, are growing beneath your existing molars, then they may require surgical removal. In this case, you may get a referral to an oral surgeon and have teeth pulled in their clinic or the hospital if you need anesthesia for the surgery.

Aftercare for Extracted Teeth

It’s critical to obey our dentists’ instructions after an extraction. A clot needs to form to stop the bleeding and allow the wound to heal, so follow these instructions:

  • Leave the gauze pad in place for up to four hours.
  • Don’t drink through a straw.
  • Don’t smoke as it can dislodge the clot.
  • Rest for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid lifting heavy items.
  • Use an ice bag on the outside of your mouth near the extraction site.
  • Rinse your mouth with warm salt water after 24 hours.

If your teeth are broken or decayed, contact our dentists at Millway Dental about possible extractions. After removing them, they can discuss replacements as well.
